A Yale-trained actor with extensive credits in theater, television and film, Chris Noth was born in Madison, Wis., on Nov. 13, 1954, and appeared largely in independent fare before finding mainstream success as Detective Mike Logan on the critically acclaimed crime drama "Law & Order" (1990-95).

But the cosmopolitan-sipping fans of "Sex and the City" will likely link Noth with his recurring role as Carrie Bradshaw's notorious Mr. Big (1998-2004), a charismatic lothario who managed to entrance an otherwise independent urban woman.
