Born November 29, 1964, in Kansas City, Mo., Don Cheadle moved frequently as a child. He earned a B.A. in Fine Arts from CalArts, made his TV debut on the series "Fame" and landed his first feature film role in 1987's Hamburger Hill. Cheadle's breakthrough performance in Devil in a Blue Dress (1995) won him several critics' awards.
Through Volcano, Rosewood, Bulworth, The Rat Pack (as Sammy Davis Jr.), Traffic and Ocean's Eleven, Cheadle's fan base grew. One of those fans was British director Terry George, who insisted on Cheadle -- against Hollywood pressure to cast a "bigger" name -- to play Paul Rusesabagina in Hotel Rwanda (2004), the true story of a heroic hotel manager who saved hundreds during the 1994 Tutsi massacre.
For this starring debut, Cheadle earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. In 2004, he also reprised his role as Basher Tarr in the sequel Ocean's Twelve. ... - from Netflix
