A chameleonic actress who established herself in the Canadian entertainment industry before making her way to Hollywood, Rachel McAdams was born in London, Ontario, Oct. 7, 1976. She first grabbed American audiences' attention playing a high schooler trapped in Rob Schneider's body in The Hot Chick (2002), a role that led to a memorable turn as "queen bee" Regina George in Mean Girls (2004).
Shedding her early screen persona as a vindictive teen villain, McAdams next played a nice girl in the 2004 romance The Notebook and followed up as Luke Wilson's love interest in Wedding Crashers (2005). She tried her hand at the terror genre in director Wes Craven's Red Eye and then transformed herself into a surly sister in The Family Stone (both 2005).

Rachel McAdams was raised in St. Thomas, Ontario. Starting at the age of four, she competed in figure skating. By the age of 13, she was performing in Shakespearean productions in summer theater camp.In high school, McAdams intended to apply to college to study cultural studies, because studying theater would be "a bit of a joke". At the last minute, a drama teacher encouraged her to audition to be a drama major.
